The gem appears clear under a 10x lens. The color is intense, saturated and pleasant. The characteristic trichroism between red, green and brown is clearly visible.
Andalusite is an extremely rare gem, because the mineralogical species to which it belongs crystallizes mainly in compact and opaque forms, called Chiastolite. The peculiarity of Andalusite is its trichroism, or the ability to refract light along the three optical axes of the crystal. The result is three refracted rays of light, coming out of the gem, which appears of three different colors when observed in the relative directions: red, green and brown.
