Honey-colored, semi-transparent opal cabochon that, when moved under the light, shows a diffuse opalescence with flashes of orange and green.
Honey Opal Cabochon. The opalescence is well distributed over the surface of the gem. It is most likely the hydrophane variety: a type of unstable opal that is regularly treated by impregnation with artificial silica gel. The treatment serves to decrease the porosity of the hydrophane and stabilize it. It is recommended not to let it come into contact with liquids in general, because hydrophane absorbs them and stains. It is also sensitive to changes in humidity, which can cause the surface to crack.
