Raw Ruby 17.00 ct
Raw Ruby 17.00 ct
The gem appears included when observed with a 10x lens: presence of blue flashes caused by the treatment and other natural characteristics. The glassy appearance of its surface is caused by the heating treatment in the presence of fluxing materials, such as borax, in which the rough stones are immersed. These fluxes allow recrystallization and internal fractures in the ruby, but having a lower melting point than the gem, they dissolve to form a glassy patina that remains on the surface of the rough stone and will be eliminated with cutting. Or by heating treatment in the presence of lead-glass, which fills the fractures of the rough stone and covers its surface.
Elongated ruby crystal that presents itself with the typical hexagonal aspect, although it is an oxide that crystallizes in the trigonal system. The beauty of this gem consists precisely in the perfection of the crystal; it is recommended to polish it in order to eliminate the flux patina, maintaining the symmetry of the rough and then mount it on a modern design jewel
