Nero Gems
Raw Ruby 9.35ct
Raw Ruby 9.35ct
The gem appears included when observed with a 10x lens: the central area of the crystal, called core, is visible, darker. This is a characteristic of some rubies, which are found in the Mogok Valley in Burma and more precisely from the Mong Hsu mine. This peculiarity does not strictly identify the place of origin. The heating treatment in the presence of fluxing materials, in which the rough stones are immersed, is the cause of the glassy appearance of the crystal surface. The fluxing materials allow recrystallization and internal fractures in the ruby, but having a lower melting point than the gem, they dissolve to form a glassy patina. Or from the heating treatment in the presence of lead-glass, which fills the fractures of the rough stone and covers its surface.
Ruby crystal with hexagonal appearance, despite being an oxide that crystallizes in the trigonal system. The beauty of this gem lies precisely in the perfection of the hexagon; it is advisable to polish it in order to eliminate the flux patina, maintaining the symmetry of the crystal and then mount it
