Pure corundum, or aluminum oxide, is a completely colorless mineral. The presence of elements foreign to its chemistry give it its color; hence the name of the variety (sapphire for blue and ruby for red). The lot presented is of a sapphire, whose yellow color was induced by beryllium diffusion processes in the structure of the gem.
